Chiropractic
Chiropractors are health care professionals trained in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injuries and disorders of the neuro-musculoskeletal system (nerves, muscles, fascia, joints/bones), with a emphasis on minimally invasive treatment without the use of medication if possible. Chiropractors are also concerned with normal spinal and joint mechanics that can be adversely affected from the wear and tear of postural imbalance and or injuries.
Dr. Blum employs a wide range of chiropractic adjustment/manipulation techniques:
-
Manual hands on adjusting (diversifed)
-
Drop table
-
Activator (patients call it the "clicky thing")
-
Low force mobilization

Benefits of an adjustment/manipulation:
-
Normal joint motion restoration
-
Pain relief through neurological input
-
Reduces pressure on nerve tissue (helps with scaitica and other nerve conditions)
-
Restores body mechanics

Soft Tissue Mobilization
Dr. Blum employs a variety of soft tissue manipulation and myofascial release techniques to address conditions and problems in the muscle, fascia, tendon, ligament, and nerves. Some of these techniques may include Active Release Technique (ART ®), Graston Technique (instrument assisted), and Myofascial Decompression (cupping).
Active Release Technique© (ART) is a patented soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Unlike other forms of therapies which simply aim to relax a tight muscle, ART works to release tissues that are bound together (adhesions), which may cause limitations of movement and/or function of the structure and surrounding structures. Active Release Technique can restore optimal mobility and improve performance in the athlete and non-athlete alike.

Graston Technique® is an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively address scar tissue and fascial restrictions. It can decrease overall time of treatment, foster faster rehabilitation/recovery, reduce need for anti-inflammatory medication, and resolve chronic conditions thought to be permanent.

Myofascial Decompression, commonly referred to as cupping, has its roots in eastern medicine and uses suction to manipulate the underlying soft tissues. This technique can be used to reduce muscle tension, increase mobility in the muscle and fascia, improve circulation, and stimulate healing. Unlike traditional methods, this dynamic treatment involves not only the placement of the cups, but also incorporates movement of either the body or the cups themselves to induce changes within the tissues.

Rehabilitation
Dr. Blum utilizes evidence-based rehabilitation protocols with her patients, such as McGill’s Big 3 for spinal stability and eccentric loading techniques for tendon injuries. These targeted exercises not only facilitate recovery from the current injury, but address underlying causations and compensation factors and keep you out of pain in the future!
-
Rehabilitation exercises and stretching
-
Ergonomic workstation evaluation and postural training
-
McGill Method and Mckenzie protocols for low back pain
-
SFMA (selective functional movement assessment) and FMS (functional movement screen)
-
DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization)

Kinesiotape
The application of specialized elastic tape can enhance the healing process and improve function by providing pain relief, improving circulation, creating dynamic support, and correcting movement patterns—all without restricting range of motion.

Perinatal Care & the Webster Technique
Dr. Blum is a certified provider for the Webster Technique, a specialized perinatal chiropractic method. The Webster Technique focuses on treatment including gentle adjustments that reduces nervous system stress, balances pelvic bones, muscles, and ligaments, and optimizes the mother’s pelvic function in pregnancy and birth. Dr. Blum has a passion for helping pregnant women continue to exercise through their pregnancy and is trained to guide return to exercise programs post birth.
